Established in January 2000, Alpha Gamma Graduate Chapter was the product of the dreams of sisterhood of three unique ladies: Nelli Alvarez, Venuz Shaw, and Tammy Ybarra. With academic backgrounds as diverse as the larger organization, these three women sought the ideals of sisterhood, empowerment, and higher education. Their quest for sisterhood established precedent for the growth of the organization in the state of Texas and as the third graduate chapter established in the United States. Seeking to expand in numbers and augment their strength, these three ladies welcomed Babe, Line 1, into the sisterhood in the Fall of 2000.
Unfortunately for reasons beyond their control, these sisters were not able to continue working under Alpha Gamma Graduate Chapter. Yet, they were nevertheless loyal to their sisterhood and commitments in both area and national boards and as a support system for undergraduate chapters.
The renaissance of Alpha Gamma Graduate Chapter would have to wait for another seven years, when after years of dedication, service, planning, endless community and educational projects- four ladies came together to form Line 2 of the Astonishingly Glamorous Alpha Gamma Graduate Chapter, "Venga lo que sea, la Fortaleza se queda!" These four sisters- Sandra McDonald, Carolina Sodre, Angelique Fernandez, and Alaide Zavala, persevered through the obstacles that were thrust before them and were able to effectively manage themselves as a single entity and as professionals, friends, wives, and students of higher education. These women personified what it is to have inner strength and dreams and above all the focus on a goal which they all held dear in their hearts- Sisterhood.
